The magnificent venomous frog belongs to Panama and lies in a small geographical range found at an altitude of about 1370 m above sea level, near West Cordillera de Talamanca Central, adjacent to Costa Rica. It is a terrestrial species found mainly in moist lowlands and very humid montane forests. In 2020, the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) declared that these frogs had become extinct in December after falling victim to citric fungus.
