Anatel Type Approval – An Obligatory Requirement For Telecom Equipment

Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (ANATEL) certification is an authority which regulates telecommunication equipment. Like INMETRO certification, it is obligatory to obtain the ANATEL certification to set a foot in the Brazilian market.

In brief, without ANATEL type approval it is legally not possible to sell or distribute telecommunication equipment in Brazil.

ANATEL includes three different categories to classify the telecommunication product-

Category I includes the products made for final consumers such as mobile phones.
Category II includes the products which use Radio Frequency (RF) such as radio broadcasting equipment.
Category III includes products such as cable connectors.
