Shri Gyaneshwari is a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita written in 1290 CE by Sant Dnyaneshwar a Marathi saint and poet.The Dnyaneshwari narrative closely follows the Bhagavad Gita but the commentary, known as tika in the local tradition, is written in the form of a song sermon that expands on the explanation to include a discussion of the major Hindu philosophies and beliefs in the 13th century.The Gita has 700 verses, while the Dnyaneshwari has around 9000. It makes references to the Vedas, Upanishads, and other important Hindu texts.
