What is Closed Comedones?

Closed comedones, commonly known as whiteheads, are a type of acne formed when pores are clogged with dead skin cells, sebum, and bacteria. Unlike open comedones (blackheads), they remain beneath the skin’s surface, resulting in small, flesh-colored bumps. These can be challenging to treat since they don’t have an opening to release the trapped material, often requiring gentle exfoliation, retinoids, or professional extraction for effective management.
